From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.
